Federal Payments to Montanans Get a Big Change Soon

One of the major payments to be affected will be in the form of checks coming from the Social Security Administration. If you are still receiving a paper check, you will need to update how those funds are distributed to you.
Electronic Banking will be an Option for Many in Montana and America
Following a new executive order by President Trump, all federal payments are to be made electronically. Under the order, payments from the following areas would no longer receive a paper check:

For those that are still receiving payments via the United States Postal Service, one option will be to switch to a direct deposit to your bank. Individuals can also switch to a pre-paid debit card.

How to Register with the Government to Continue Receiving Payments
For those needing to make the change, you have until September 30, 2025, to do so. For registration, people are able to use the Go Direct website here.
Exceptions will be possible for recipients that have no access to banking or are facing extreme hardships. Those will only be granted with approval by the U.S. Treasury Department approval.
