Beginning this weekend on July 4, 2026, parents across Montana and America will have the unique opportunity to sign their child or children up for Trump Accounts.  These accounts are through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Treasury Department.

As part of the Working Families Tax Cuts, Trump Accounts "allows parents, guardians and other authorized individuals to establish a new type of individual retirement account for their children".  The new pilot program is "for children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, and who are U.S. citizens with a valid Social Security number."

Eligible children can receive a free $1,000 government funded investment account through President Trump's new program.  The monies will be automatically invested into a low-cost stock market index fund.

Parents Can Also Contribute to the New Trump Account Fund Annually

One of the other benefits of the new Trump Accounts program allows families to invest up to $5,000 each year all the way until the child reaches the age of 18.  Once the child reaches that age, they have the option of continuing to contribute to the fund or use the funds as available through a traditional IRA account.

The new app officially launches on July 4, 2026, with President Trump stating about the program: "This is a pro-family initiative that will help millions of Americans harness the strength of our economy to lift up the next generation.
