
20th Anniversary to Be Celebrated in Montana for Skijoring
Science has proven that when hypothermia effects start to happen to the human body, delusions are a possible symptom or result of it. I am beginning to believe that might have happened back in the 1960's in Montana to a few individuals.
Either that, or the possibility of alcohol and a "triple dog dare you" were involved in coming up with an unusual winter sport in Northwest Montana. Skijoring season is upon us, and an annual event celebrating the sport is ready for its 20th Anniversary.

20th Anniversary to Be Celebrated in Montana for Skijoring
If you aren't familiar with the sport of skijoring, it is quite simple. One person on skis holding a rope, another on horseback with the rope dallied around the pommel. Once the spurs hit, it's pretty much mayhem, madness and wild fun down the course.

In Montana, the event in Kalispell is one of the first iterations of the sport. According to legend, the founder of the Whitefish Winter Carnival challenged local skiers and horse club to race together; one skier, one rider, one horse. As fast as you can go. The rest as they say, is history in the mountain valley.
How to Attend and Get Tickets to the Anniversary Event in Montana this February
Ready to bundle up and watch the fun for the 20th Anniversary Celebration? The event will be held in Kalispell, Montana on February 14th and 15th, 2026. General admission or VIP tickets for one or both days are available online here.
Both novice and professional athletes will be competing both days of the event. Gates open at 10am with racing beginning for the novice riders in the morning at 11am.
