New Updates on Damage from Wildfires to Maverick Mountain

Wildfires can wreak havoc on a lot of things; and not care what stands in its way of consuming more fuel.  It can destroy buildings, years of forest growth; even hearts.

As fires have rages in the Sand Creek Fire, the small ski resort of Maverick Mountain has been at the heart of it.  Because for many, it is the heart of the area near Helena, Montana.  It is that same heart from the owners and the surrounding communities that will help it survive, despite some losses on the mountain.

New Updates on Damage from Wildfires to Maverick Mountain

Through social media, owner/operator Eric Borge said that as of Friday afternoon on August 14, all buildings at the base area had been saved.  Snowcats and other equipment using in maintaining the ski runs had also been spared.

However, the only ski lift on Maverick Mountain sustained extensive damage due to the fires.  Borge said that it is likely that the lift will not be operational for the upcoming 2026/2027 ski season.  He added that more damage is possible, but until they are given full access to the area, they won't know for sure.

A "Whirlwind" of Emotions for Owners of Maverick Mountain as They Look Ahead

Maverick Mountain said that despite the setbacks, they "are already actively looking at how to rebuild Maverick" and to "keep our commitment to our local communities, the kids, families and other passholders that make up the MavRat family."
