As most of us know, Montana gets a lot of snow. But is it as much as we think when compared to the rest of the United States? For these two towns, yes!

What two Montana towns make the top 15 in the U.S. for Snowiest cities?

According to The Old Farmers Almanac, Montana doesn't make it in the top 10, but we do place in the top 15, twice.

How did the Almanac come up with the list? First, it's important to know, that only cities with over 10,000 people were taken into consideration. Secondly, the Almanac used data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and stated:

...weather data including annual snowfall (including ice pellets and sleet) based on a 30-year average. The weather data is reported by individual weather stations from all over the United States. -NOAA

Great Falls, MT received 61.5 inches of snow, making it 14th on the list. Great Falls is home to a little over 60,000 people and is not just known for its heavy snowfall. Great Falls is also home to the shortest river in the world and also the largest freshwater spring in the United States.

On top of receiving almost 60 inches of average snowfall a year, it also has some of the most affordable housing (for the population) and has made the list as one of the Best Cities For Jobs and One Of The Best Cities For Singles.

Do you think your town of 10,000 or more should have made the list?

Jezel Doughert's grandmother passed away and like many of us do, she spent hours going through years and years of history, from old yearbooks to news clippings, to pictures. Jezel sent me a piece of history that, if not for her, I wouldn't be able to share with you.
