Planting A Future in Great Falls with Tree Donations
When traveling in the Electric City, a common area that sees a variety of activities is the Gibson Park of downtown Great Falls. More than just park, it features a large waterfowl water area, basketball courts, walking path, playground and more.
The area is a true gem, even featuring the oldest home in Great Falls in the Vinegar Jones Cabin. But as you drive Park Drive, you may have noticed the absence of something. Or maybe you noticed all of the stumps?
Urban Forestry in Great Falls Parks and Boulevards
The Great Falls Parks and Recreation Department handles the trees within the city parks and boulevards. The city is home to over 33,000 trees located in parks, boulevards, golf courses, and other public places.

However, over the years, those trees have become diseased, or bug infested, causing dangers for people that frequent the parks and areas of Great Falls. The forestry department removed 39 trees from Gibson Park in 2024 for those reasons.

City of Great Falls Urban Forestry Asking for Help Replacing Trees
The Gibson Park Roots Revival aims to replace those 39 trees within the park as soon as possible. To help alleviate some of the costs to do so, the city is allowing citizens to purchase a tree and have it planted this spring.

Those wanting to purchase a tree can choose from several different species as well. Offerings of pine, honey locust, maple, oak, or even larch and elm are available to plant. Interested people can stop at the Parks and Rec Department at 1700 River Drive North for more information.
