Family celebrations are beginning as the holidays start to arrive and it of course means that your family, friends or even co-workers will be stuffing themselves at the dinner table for Thanksgiving.

Now, I have been to a few of these dinners, and I don't think there has ever been an instance that involved a trip to the emergency room on turkey day.  But the holiday can be one of the most dangerous for trips to see the folks in white jackets and a nice stethoscope handy.

In trying to find various statistics in regard to the Thanksgiving holiday event, it became apparent quickly that the top things that would be bringing folks into an ER were probably preventable.

According to Strengthen Health Care data, there are on average about 18,000 visits to the hospital during the peak holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Many come the day after Thanksgiving, with families beginning to decorate with lights, trees and more.  But don't be tricked by a turkey, gobble day is just as bad.

The why behind most holiday accidents can be attributed to a couple of different, but rather large factors:
