Hidden Gem Right in the Middle of Montana - The Literal Middle, Seriously
In my opinion, one of the best towns that doesn't appear in the spotlight often is located right in the middle of Montana. Literally. There are stories of the geographic center of the state being located in Lewistown in the famous Yogo Inn. More recent calculations put it about 11 miles out of town.
Either way, Lewistown is a definite gem within the state. A new cancer center, the annual Centerfest Music Festival, the Central Montana Fair; the list continues of cool things the town offers. And it also holds rights to being home to the annual Chokecherry Festival coming soon.

The date for the 2026 Chokecherry Festival will be on Saturday September 12th. The event takes place on main street in Lewistown, with vendors, live entertainment, pancake breakfast (with chokecherries, of course) and more.

The festival draws over 5,000 people each year to enjoy crafts, art displays and of course family fun for everyone. The event also usually features a cherry spitting contest with different age categories for individuals to try.
Food and Live Music a Part of the Event, with Raffles and a Chance to Catch Up
The Lewistown Area Chamber of Commerce has also revealed that live music will be "floating" along the main street of the town for people's enjoyment. The festival also comes at an opportune time in central Montana.

Most crops are finished up, baling has finished, school is back in full swing and most folks are ready for a quick breather after a long summer. It's a can't miss event in my calendar and shows just how awesome this town is and is becoming in our state.
