Beginning on October 1st, 2025, your medication purchased in Montana or anywhere in the United States is probably going to cost you more.  In some instances, it could even be a deal breaker on whether to continue using certain medications.

That appears to be the conundrum that my family and many across the state will be faced with come the next month as new tariffs have been announced by President Trump that are aimed directly at pharmaceutical companies outside the country.

New Tariffs on Medication May Cost Montanans Big Time

After a couple of health scares and a few surgeries in the last few years, the medicine cabinet in my home has various prescriptions to ensure that I can still play golf on the weekends.  And while they aren't overly expensive, the new tariffs could double the price of them.  Yes, double.  So much for next year's golf getaway.

That doubling occurs with the new 100% tariff on branded and patented pharmaceuticals, unless the companies are already building U.S. plants.  And considering the Census Bureau reports that we imported nearly $233 billion in pharmaceutical and medicinal products, it is going to affect a lot of Montana's pocketbooks.

Personal Opinion:  This Isn't Going to Play Out Well for Some

I, along with everyone else, hope that these tariffs aren't going to last for an extended amount of time.  My fear is that some may feel that the cost isn't worth it.  And completely quit taking their medication.  I say that because I may be one of those that does just that to save money to pay for other, more important meds in the bathroom cabinet.

How will these new tariffs effect your household?  Would you consider quitting a medicine to help pay for others or even help cover the cost of a loved one instead?
