This seems like Deja vu all over again.  HAB's, better known as harmful algal blooms, are getting back in the news cycle again.  After less than two weeks from our original article, more blooms are causing havoc in Montana waterways.

New blooms have been spotted at a popular hangout spot near Great Falls, Montana and it is creating a little havoc with not just water enthusiasts but also disc golf fans in the Electric City.

Wadsworth Pond and Park in Great Falls Closed Temporarily for HAB's

On August 20, 2026, the Great Falls Park and Recreation Department announced that the Wadsworth Pond had been found to have several HAB's in the water.  For the public's safety, the pond has been closed.

But with the pond closure announcement the department also said that the entire park would need to be closed, but only temporarily as officials assess the situation with the algal blooms occurring in the pond.  That means swimming, kayaking, or fishing.

Great Falls Disc Players Displaced While Assessment of Blooms Continues

As officials ask the public and their pets to not enter the park, it also effects another group that uses the Wadsworth Park, the Electric City Disc Golf Club.  The club announced that since the park is closed, access to the newly established Silverthorne Disc Golf Course is also closed.

The social media page for the group stated that with the closure, players are encouraged to use the other course affiliated with the club at Flag Hill in Great Falls.
