The last days of summer for school-aged children are upon us.  This time next week, bells will be ringing across Great Falls and Montana as the 2026-2027 school year is set to begin.

Some schools have already headed back to the classroom this week.  In a way, parents also need to head back to school.  Or at least a refresher course on school zone safety and being prepared for the students that are in them.

Easy Reminders for Back-to-School Safety in Great Falls Next Week

The Great Falls Public Schools will open the doors to classrooms beginning on August 26, 2026.  As kids begin the trek back to school, many will be attending a brand-new facility that they may not be familiar with or the area around it for the school zones.

I think one of the main things I see in school zones is speeding.  Most school zones are set at 25 miles per hour during school time, but I've had several instances of cars weaving in and out of traffic at 30mph or maybe more.  Slow down in school zones!

Tips for Drivers, Parents and Kids as School is Set to Begin Next Week in Great Falls

Besides slowing down, most of us behind the wheel of vehicle should already be following these tips, even if it isn't during the school year.  Keeping your eyes on the road, devices out of your hands and more can help keep you, children, crosswalk attendants and other drivers safe.
