If you thought the year was going to go out quietly with the criminal hacking division of the internet, think again.  Cybercriminals are back after a small hiatus through the summer, and it appears they have all too familiar targets back in their proverbial sights.

After taking a major hit with email pal Outlook earlier this year (see story here), Google's Gmail service has had a major data breach that may affect thousands across Montana.  The same breach could be felt by millions of subscribers of the service across the world.

Experts Warn to Check Your Gmail Account in Montana Now

Cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt first announced the new data breach of Gmail this month, but the stealing of data happened as early as April 2025.  The attack could have compromised over 183 million accounts through the service.

Unfortunately, it isn't just Gmail that is getting all the attention from hackers.  The breach also includes email addresses and passwords from Outlook again, Yahoo and other major providers to include:

  • Amazon
  • Netflix
  • eBay

If you are worried about your Gmail or other email accounts, security expert Hunt also runs the cyber safety website Have I Been Pwned which can see if you have been affected by the latest breach.

If it has been, experts recommend changing your password immediately and enable two-factor authentication for added protection if possible.  Other accounts should also be checked, especially if you tend to reuse the same password for multiple accounts.
