If you use multiple devices within your home to connect to the internet, whether via a cable or through a wi-fi connection, you're probably familiar with the device that affords that ability to do so.
The router for your internet is an integral part of any home or business network. But the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has some concerns about where those components are being built and assembled.

Wi-Fi Routers Could Contain Malicious Hardware from Outside Countries
Wi-fi routers or boxes that are foreign made are where the problems occur with the FCC. Their concern is that possible "backdoors" could be placed in the firmware of those devices, allowing hackers tied to countries such as China or Russia access.

When you consider everything is pretty much tied to the internet, this becomes a red flag for the agency. And not just for home internet users. Businesses, commerce, banking even eating out could be affected.

No, the sky isn't falling, Skynet isn't spying on you and your router in your home is just fine. Your current router is perfectly ok to use, and if you need a new one, yes, you can buy one at any store/online that you prefer to use. New restrictions of future imports won't take effect soon.
