Great Falls Park Won’t Get New Trees After Recent Vandalism
You don't need a degree in biology to realize the importance of trees in the cycle of life on planet Earth. The benefits of trees are immense, providing environmental returns, shade and create beautiful landscapes in the city and the countryside.
Trees in the city of Great Falls and our parks are an investment in all of those but also require ongoing resources to take care of. When they get destroyed, it is coming out of our pockets to replace them. Except this time; Elk's Riverside Park maple trees won't be coming back.

Great Falls Park Won't Get New Trees After Recent Vandalism

The tree was part of six that were planted at the park 4 years ago as part of a beautification project. Damage over those years has resulted in all of the trees being removed from the park.

The department said that while they "remain committed to improving and maintaining our parks" they must also be "responsible stewards of public resources". That means leaning on the public to report vandalism, especially if you witness it happening.

The Park and Recreation Department recommends contacting the Great Falls Police Department if you have witnessed or have information involving vandalism at a city park. By being aware, you help with how "community awareness and reporting play an important role in helping protect the public spaces we all enjoy".
