If you travel the skies often, this may have happened to you, perhaps a few times.  Ever landed at your final destination only to discover that your luggage is enjoying a different vacation in another part of the country, maybe even the world?

It does happen often.  And some airlines are more likely to lose that precious cargo than others.  It is the risk we all take when we board that plane and head out for the fun.  And it could mean having to purchase new whatever is lost.

5 to 14 Days to Recover Your Montana Luggage

According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), "Most airlines will declare a bag lost between five and fourteen days after the flight, but this can vary from one airline to another."  If that does occur, there are rules that airlines must follow.

The DOT states that "Under DOT regulations (for domestic travel) and international treaties (for international travel), airlines are required to compensate passengers if their bags are damaged, delayed, or lost."

Airlines To Try to Avoid When Flying from Montana

In Montana there are 7 major airlines that fly in and out of the state.  Of those 7 available, 4 make the NY Post report on airlines that are most likely to lose your luggage.  Of those 6 remaining, none offer service in our state.

That does mean though that 3 of our airlines didn't make that top 10 list, and that is a great thing.  Those 3 are:

  • Cape Air
  • Frontier Airlines

As for the top 10 airlines that will likely leave you shopping the hotel convenience store, here they are:
