Large to small, our state has the opportunity to see just about anything.  One of those happens to be the smallest canine in North America, and thankfully it is making a comeback from the brink of endangerment.

The Swift Fox Making Strides for a Comeback in Montana

The swift fox of North America and Montana was once a common staple on the prairie or in the mountains.  The population took a downturn in the 20th century, with proponents of the animal suggesting it should be on the endangered species list.

Thankfully in Montana, those numbers have been turned around and are currently doing well within our borders.  The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks wants the public to know more about these animals, and will be hosting a new seminar in January.

Learning More at the First People's Buffalo Jump in Great Falls

Coming January 18th, 2025, to the First People's Buffalo Jump, a family-friendly educational event will focus on the history and biology of Montana’s unique swift fox, led by FWP wildlife biologist Brandi Skone.

According to the release from MFWP, "the program will take place in the First Peoples Buffalo Jump classroom, and seating capacity is limited. For more information contact First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park at 406-866-2217. The park is 3.5 miles north of Ulm, off Interstate 15 at Exit 270."
