Hooked on Central Montana as a Lifelong Resident

Having spent a good portion of my life living in Central Montana, I have always had the belief we live in the best location possible for the state.

Regardless of the activity, or the time of the year, pretty much all of them can be had with just a drive of 90 miles or less.  Which in Montana terms of driving, doesn't even really count on the odometer.

Fishing in Central Montana a Definite Perk for Residents

If fishing is a thing for you, then our area offers not only great locations, but the chance to catch a variety of fish.

Trout abounds in most of those areas, but we also have:

  • Carp
  • Goldeye
  • Catfish
  • Paddlefish
  • Pike
  • Walleye

All those and more species are available within that quick drive to areas like

  • Highwood or Belt Mountain Ranges
  • Tiber/Lake Elwell
  • Holter Lake
  • Missouri River
  • Smith River
  • Belt Creek

Learning how to catch all those different fish in their different habitats is the focus of the Hooked on Fishing Program with the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks.  The program is aimed at:

upper elementary and middle school students to help them better understand and enjoy the aquatic environment, improve angling skills, and increase user safety
