Most of us know the Giant Springs State Park near Great Falls as a home to the fish hatchery and the world's shortest river, the Roe.  But soon it will be home to construction workers in orange and yellow instead of families with picnic baskets.

Activities at the state park will also include work on the Giant Springs Hatchery, established in 1928 and last upgraded in 1984.  Specifics on construction weren't given in the release.

Public Will Have Limited Access for Areas at the State Park Near Great Falls

Once construction is underway at the park, visitors to the area won't be able to access the fish display pond at the hatchery.  MFWP also said that "parts of Roe Island near the springs along with the sidewalk upstream of the Giant Springs may also be temporarily closed."

There is a bright spot to the construction, besides just the upgrades.  Access to Roe River will still be available: "visitors will still be able to walk across the foot bridge to Roe Island and access the viewing bridge. The River's Edge Trail will remain open but may require walking across the grass while working is occurring upstream of the springs."  For more information on the projects, contact the Giant Springs Ranger Station.
