As the Fall approaches across Montana, it also has appeared on my social media timelines as well.  But not the general type of stuff like pumpkins or trees turning those beautiful colors; hunting photos are everywhere on my feed it seems.

Which makes sense as the bow hunting season has been underway for several weeks across the state including antelope and big game like elk and more.  For new rifle hunters, that season starts soon, and the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) are gearing up for it with field days.

Field Dates for Youth Hunters Set in Great Falls for Region 4

MFWP has announced two new dates and a variety of times for field days for the upcoming season.  Students who have completed the online hunter education course are able to attend any of the field days being offered, but MFWP warns that they often fill very quickly, especially the earlier available date.

This year, the following dates are being offered to students in the Great Falls and surrounding Region 4 area:

  • Wed Sept 30 8–11 am
  • Wed Sept 30 12–3 pm
  • Wed Sept 30 4-7pm
  • Wed Oct 21 4-7 pm

Students Must be 12 Years or Older - Adults 18+ Welcome if Spots Available

Students must be 12 years or older and have completed the online course to participate.  The online course must also be completed before signing up for a field day with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks.  Adults 18 and older aren't required to attend a field day, but are welcome if space allows for them.

During the field day, students will find that the "course will consist of firearm identification, safe firearm handling (including loading and unloading dummy ammunition), shot selection, regulations, firearm safety in vehicles, and other topics."  To sign up a youth hunter, visit the MFWP website here.
