What's Up with the Water Tower Pool in Great Falls?
There will be one less place for kids and adults to get away from the heat of the Montana summer in 2025. The Great Falls Park and Recreation Department has announced a closure of one of the several pools in the city.
While disappointing to many families in the area of the closing pool, the GFPR also wants to remind everyone that safety is priority number one for citizens of the Electric City.

Not Enough Lifeguards to Go Around at Great Falls Public Pools
In making the announcement, the City of Great Falls stated that they:
regret to announce that the Water Tower Pool will remain closed for the 2025 summer season due to an ongoing shortage of certified lifeguards. We understand this news may be disappointing to families and residents who value access to this neighborhood facility. However, safety remains our highest priority.

According to Montana Administrative Rules, the city is "required to have certified lifeguards to be on duty while a municipally owned or operated swimming pool is open." That means the city of Great Falls "cannot legally or responsibly open a pool without meeting these staffing requirements."
