Coming of Age - Hunter Safety Classes in Great Falls
Coming of age in Montana can mean different things for many residents, but I am pretty certain that one of those passages involves becoming a hunter. Even if you never leave the comfort of the meat aisle in your grocery store.
As part of becoming that hunter, the State of Montana wants to make sure that you have the skills and knowledge to be in the field, searching for an elusive wapiti. Hunter Safety Education classes are coming soon to Great Falls and the surrounding areas.
Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks Announce New Hunter Education Courses
Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks Region 4 has announced several new classes in the center of the state. Classes within Region 4 include the following:
- Choteau - Combined hunter and bowhunter education class begins March 4
- Great Falls – class begins March 11
- Belt – class begins March 17
- Fairfield - class begins March 18
- Chester – Feb. 25 field day for online students
- Great Falls – March 22 field day for online students

According to MFWP, "during in-person courses, students learn how to safely handle firearms, basic survival skills, hunting ethics, wildlife management, game identification, landowner-hunter relations, and Montana hunting laws and regulations."

Signing Up for Hunter Safety Classes in Montana is Easy
Is your child coming of age for the upcoming hunting season in 2025? Make sure they are signed up for these free classes soon with MFWP. Students must be at least 10 years old on the first night of class to participate in Hunter Education. In-person courses are free of charge, but student capacity is limited.

For youth to be eligible to hunt and be fully certified during the 2025 season, they must be 12-years old by January 16, 2026. Students aged 10 and 11 can take the in-person classroom course and hunt as an apprentice but will not be fully certified until the year they turn 12.
