Montana Blackfeet Reservation Issues Alcohol Restrictions
Montana children are beginning the long trek back to schools across the state during the month of August. Getting those kids to try and focus those first few weeks can be daunting for teachers. Especially if there are outside classroom disruptions happening.
As part of the new school year, one reservation in Montana is hoping to make a difference in their area by limiting alcohol sales during the day through the entire school year. That same hope is that children will be more concentrating on their studies, rather than what may be transpiring out the classroom window.
Effective Immediately - Alcohol Sales Restricted During Specific Hours
In a notice sent to licensed vendors, the Blackfeet Tribe Department of Revenue in Browning, Montana states that effective August 20, 2025, alcohol sales will be limited on the reservation between the hours of 8am and 5pm each day.

Citizens Comments Split on Effectiveness of the Ban on the Reservation
In making the announcement through social media, the comments appeared to be split pretty evenly on the idea and whether or not it is a solution to drug or drinking problems on the reservation.
The Director of Revenue for the Blackfeet Reservation encourages anyone with questions regarding the ordinance to contact the office at their new location in Browning at 649 North Piegan Road. The office is open Monday thru Friday from 8am to 4:30pm.
