Amazing Program Shines for STEM in Great Falls Schools

I am not a teacher.  Just ask my wife.  My frustration levels get into the red zone pretty easily if trying to explain something that is just second nature to me.

And to that, I have nothing but the utmost respect for our teachers in trying to tackle each day behind a desk or in front of a chalkboard.  So, when I see programs that might make it a little easier to keep a student engaged, I am all for them.  Like the Starbase program in Great Falls.

Program in Great Falls Offered with the Montana Military Affairs Division

When you think the Montana Military Affairs department, educational programs probably aren't something you correlate with it.  The department has several divisions within itself including:

  • Directors Office, Department of Emergency Services, Montana Veterans Affairs Division, Montana Youth Challenge Academy, STARBASE, and both the Montana Air and Army National Guard.

Great Falls Public Schools are only one of two schools in the state that are able to offer the Starbase program to students.  The program offers opportunities for students to "experience the technological environments and positive civilian and military role models found on Active, Guard, and Reserve military bases and installations."

Department of Defense Helps Pay for Starbase Program in Motnana

Through the DMA and the Department of Defense, the Starbase program is 100% federally funded.  The program for 5th grade students "provides 25 hours of hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) instruction to all fifth-grade classes within the Helena and Great Falls school districts."

The Starbase program also benefits other students and grades in Great Falls, offering afterschool programs and summer camps to students in grades 3 12 across Montana.  You can learn more about the programs offered in Great Falls here.
