New data has been released by the State of Montana showing that recreational and medical marijuana smokers watched over $300 million dollars go "up in smoke" during the past year of 2025.
With those final numbers tallied, Montana has now surpassed the $1B dollar mark in sales since making recreational bud available in 2022. Since that time, sales have continued to grow each year.

Marijuana Sales in Montana Top $300 Million for 2025
Sales data from Montana Department of Revenue show that we actually passed that $1B dollar mark in March, with totals reaching $1,023,210,727 by the end of that month in 2025. By the end of December, that official number from MDOR showed total sales of $1,273,920,536.

For the year of 2025, medical marijuana sales totaled nearly $38 million dollars, with recreational marijuana sales of close to $290 million dollars. While the numbers continue to climb for recreational sales, medical sales fell slightly.

According to the year-end data from the MDOR, the top 3 months for sales at dispensaries across Montana were:
- August - $30,046,390
- July - $29,459,277
- October - $28,550,882
