Kid’s Fishing Day at Wadsworth Pond Coming to Great Falls
As I grew up in the Highwood Mountains, just outside of Great Falls, Montana, fishing was a part of life from the beginning. Standing on a bank of Upper Highwood Creek with stick for a pole and some line my grandfather kept in his saddle bag is an early and fond memory of those times.
That love of baiting a hook and seeing what grabs it is a thrill that just doesn't go away. In high school, I could be found stopping at any of the fishing holes on the journey home. And yes, even today, I plod those same creek beds in the mountains in search of pan fry brook trout for the campfire and dinner plate.

Kid's Fishing Day at Wadsworth Pond Coming to Great Falls
Passing those same traditions on to my son and grandson have been some amazingly great times, and the opportunity for parents and kids to join together in the same way is coming to Great Falls with an annual tradition.
The author still enjoys hitting those same banks in the Highwoods, with a little help from his companion.

Kids Fishing Day at Wadsworth Pond is on its way back, and families will be able to find their passion at the pond on June 6, 2026, beginning at 9am. The event is open to the public and is free for children and families to attend.
Help Support the Fishing Day by Supporting These Organizations in the Area
The annual event is a group effort from several different organizations in Cascade County. Those include the Missouri River Flyfishers Association, Wadsworth Pond Community Coalition, Walleyes Unlimited, and the Sun River Watershed Group.
During the one-day event, kids (and maybe a parent or two) learn about fish, fishing, knots, casting, fly tying, and more. Kids will also receive a fishing pole if they don't have one. If children have a pole, they are encouraged to bring it and receive a tackle box instead. More information can be found here for the event.
