Hit the Brakes! Urgent Recalls in Montana to Watch Out For
Jeez, and we almost made it to the end of the month before there was another major recall that would affect us in Montana. Whoa, boy howdy how wrong I was about that one.
Within the last few days, two separate recalls have been identified that both effect the same thing. Brake failures are happening in not just vehicles, but some of those green tractors also.
Two Major Manufacturers That Are a Part of Everyday Life in Montana
In separate announcements through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), select John Deere tractors and certain General Motors vehicles are affected.

For GM, the recall effects nearly 450,000 vehicles in varying models. For John Deere the recall hits nearly 148,000 compact utility tractors. In addition, nearly 17,000 tractors were also sold in Canada.
Checking Models for Both Companies Through Their Respective Websites
In the recall for John Deere, the models affected include:
- John Deere 1023E, 1025R, and 2025R Compact Utility Tractors
The failure involves "The front bell crank in the brake linkage can fail causing the tractor to lose braking, resulting in a crash hazard."

For General Motors, the varying models is a tad more extensive. From the NHTSA the recall involves the following:
- 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- GMC Sierra 1500
- 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV
The issue is "the electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs."
