A new recall is out, again, for the Ford Motor Company.  And for the life of my driving career, I can't ever remember "back in the day" when my parents were worried about getting a recall on their vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there is a new transmission issue affecting popular Ford vehicles, including pickups and SUV models of the brand.

The defect within the transmission lies with the "parking pawl", the device that keeps your vehicle from rolling when placed in park.  It certain cases, the pawl has been engaged when driving, and becomes broken, unable to lock the vehicle in place.

How to Check Your VIN to Determine If Your Vehicle Needs a Replacement Part

The new recall effects the following models of Ford vehicles:

• 2018-2021 Navigator and Expedition models
• 2020-2021 Explorer and Lincoln Aviator models
• 2021 Ford F-150 pickups

Affected owners will be notified via mail from Ford Motor Company.  If your vehicle is on the recall list, your local dealership can update the powertrain control module software and inspect your transmission for damage.  Dealers will replace any damaged components free of charge.  To check your VIN, visit the NHTSA website here.
