Did Montana Dog Owners Follow Naming Trends in 2025?
Having to choose a name for something, regardless of what that something may be, can be excruciatingly frustrating. You are saddling that name to an object for the rest of the time it exists.
I'm seriously thankful that I only had one son. Because trying to come up with more than one name for a child would have broken me. Just as it does when it comes time to name a new family pet, I struggle just as badly. But apparently, I fell right into the mold of the rest of the new pet parents when it comes to naming our furbabies in 2025.

Did Montana Dog Owners Follow Naming Trends in 2025?
2025 is rapidly coming to a close, and a whole crop of "Best of 2025" are beginning to appear in my news feeds on the internet. As it turns out, we were definitely not "trendy" as the top climbing names for dogs were Caesar, Mufasa and Oswald on the male side. Female names leading this year included Elphie, Tsuki and Rumi. We weren't anywhere close to those when we chose Cordelia for this pile of fur and mischievousness:
Montana and the Western US Love Outdoorsy Names for Our Pets
My wife and I did follow one trend (sort of) that was popular with pet owners: naming your pets from movies, TV, or favorite things. You might remember "Cordelia" from the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".
Not really a "slayer", unless sleep counts. We actually chose her name from her lineage as a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and the origins of the name being Celtic/Welsh. It also fits it with her clan mate, "Roxy the Red", also a nod to Nordic heritage:
Regional pet parents also had favorite names. Many towards the Western side of the US leaned into outdoorsy names such as Aspen, Boots or Bandit. The Midwest chose names like Loki, Butters or Simba. Many owners also chose names based on their pet's appearance or their personalities. You can see the full list here.
