Scary Details of Officer Involved Shooting in Big Timber
The Montana Highway Patrol were involved in an extremely scary incident on Thursday April 3, 2025, near the town of Big Timber in south central Montana.

In a press release through the Montana Department of Justice on Thursday afternoon, law enforcement was "alerted that a suspect from Nebraska, with a no-bond warrant for his arrest for threatening to use explosives or place bombs, had entered Montana."

MHP Attempt Arrest, But Suspect Flees with Shots Fired
On Thursday afternoon an officer noticed the suspect's vehicle near the town of Big Timber. After receiving backup assistance, officers attempted a traffic stop but the suspect began to flee.

Officers attempted a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the suspect’s vehicle but were unsuccessful. The suspect then fired a weapon, and officers returned fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two Montana Highway Patrol Officers Involved Unharmed and Now on Leave
The MDOJ stated that the two officers from MHP were not injured in the incident and have been placed on administrative leave according to the Patrol's policy. The Division of Criminal Investigation will lead the investigation according to the release.
In a statement through the MDOJ, Montana Highway Patrol Colonel Kurt Sager said that:
