New details are being released by the Montana Highway Patrol after a holiday weekend pursuit near Billings, Montana on July 6, 2025.
The pursuit ended near Acton, Montana and mile marker 12 on Montana Highway 3 leading north from Billings.

Pursuit Began as a Normal Speeding Ticket, But Quickly Turning Dangerous
According to the release through social media with the Montana Highway Patrol, the pursuit began at 12:15pm on July 6 on Highway 3, just north of Billings. The trooper attempted a speeding stop on a vehicle, but after refusal to stop, the trooper began a pursuit.

As the pursuit continued along Highway 3, the suspect collided head on with a semi-truck near mile marker 12 near Acton and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial Crash Leads to Evasive Maneuvers by MHP Trooper
The MHP trooper in pursuit used his "quick-thinking and training" to avoid the semi-truck but in doing so rolled his patrol car. The trooper was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He is now home recovering.
The semi-tractor driver was also taken to the hospital; his condition is unknown at this time. An active investigation is happening with more details to be released when available. The Division of Criminal Investigation has been requested to lead the investigation.
