Top Tips for Great Falls Kids Riding the Bus
School is back in session across Montana for many kids and for some of them, they will be taking their very first bus ride to and from school. For others, they may have a few years under their rear on those vinyl green seats.
Either way, there are five great ways that as guardians, parents or grandparents to help make that trip a little easier on not only them, but other students and that friendly bus driver.

While growing up, our ranch was the very first and the very last bus stop each day of school. I can't remember how many times I woke up to find the bus driver and my parents enjoying coffee at the kitchen table.

But it also meant long hours on the bus and being bored on it. And, as kids are, we tend to probably do things we shouldn't when that boredom sets in. You don't want to be the parent of the child that gets kicked off the bus route. Trust me on this one!
5 Easy Tips for Kids While Riding the Bus in Great Falls or Anywhere
From Safe Kids Worldwide, these are 5 easy tips to help kids who are just starting to ride the bus, or those that need a quick reminder about safety, respect and etiquette.
- Walk with your kids to your bus stop and wait until the bus arrives. This is especially with younger children.
- Teach kids to stand three giant steps back from the curb as the bus approaches and to board one at a time.
- Kids should wait to board or leave until the bus has come to a full stop. Be mindful of never walking behind the bus.
- If a child needs to cross the street after exiting the bus, take 5 giant steps in front of the bus, make eye contact with the driver and then cross when he indicates it is ok to do so.
- Be sure to look left, right, then left again before crossing the street.
