November and December will have amazing super moons to view in the night skies, and all this week you can take in an incredible show of meteors lighting the overnight hours.  Plus, viewers could catch a glimpse of a green comet streaking by Earth.

Look Up This Week for Amazing Meteor Shower in Montana

During the week of October 20, 2025, night sky watchers will be able to catch the Orionid Meteor Shower brought by Halley's Comet.  Peaks for the showers should be overnight on October 21 and October 22.

Seeing them this year should be exceptional with the new moon happening and skies being darker than usual.  Under ideal conditions, meteors should be falling at about 10-20 per hour, with occasional large bursts and some meteors leaving long trails or "trains" for several seconds afterwards.

Comet Lemmon - Your Once in a Lifetime Chance to Catch It in the Sky

In January of this year, scientists and astrologers identified a "new" comet, aptly named "Comet Lemmon" for the discovery at Mount Lemmon Survey.  The comet will pass by Earth this week, appearing mostly in the northwestern horizon shortly after sunset.

The comet tail has a green hue behind it, caused by gases being highlighted and glowing by solar UV rays.  The comet should be visible to the naked eye, but better viewing is possible with binoculars or a telescope.  This may be your only chance to see it; the comet has a long orbital period estimated at 1,150–1,350 years, meaning it won't be around again until the year of 3175!

According to NASA, the Perseid meteor shower is "considered the best meteor shower of the year." The show typically peaks mid-August. For 2023, the shower peaked around the world between Aug. 12-14.
