Largest Balloon Event in Montana Set to Return in 2026

When you board the airplane at the airport, you may not consider the actual flight.  Between other people, stewardesses, the captain and engine noise, it is more transportation than enjoyment of flight.

In order to get the full effect of taking off and experiencing the fun of flight, the joys of being in a hot air balloon can't be beat.  Only the occasional sound of the flame going off to keep you afloat.  With the ample skies across Montana, it might be just the experience you crave and the biggest event for balloons is set to return for 2026.

Largest Balloon Event in Montana Set to Return in 2026

The Big Sky Balloon Rally in Billings, Montana will return July 23-26, 2026, at Amend Park.  Spectators across the area will be able to see hot air balloons launched from the park each of the 4 days of the event at 6am, weather permitting.

On Saturday July 25th, the public will have the chance to be up close and personal with pilots and their balloons.  Open viewing at Amend Park will open at 6pm with live music, food trucks and more at the field to follow.  Attendants can also take part in the "balloon glow" (weather permitting) beginning at dusk the same evening at the park.  Pilots may also offer trading cards to obtain at each balloon.

Family Friendly Event Looking for Sponsors, Pilots and Volunteers

Organizers of the event are asking for any business or interested parties wanting to help bring balloons to the Big Sky Balloon Rally to contact them immediately here.  Hot air balloon pilots should also begin registering now, as the event fills quickly.

The event also requires lots of volunteers during the 4 days of balloons at the park.  Volunteers will help inflate and follow a hot air balloon from Amend Park each morning to wherever the wind takes them.  You don't even need experience; the pilot and crew chief will teach you everything you need to know.  To learn more, click here.
