Central Montana Sports Round-Up With Baker Bob
Are you ready for AA playoff action?
Hold on there, partner, we have some unfinished business to get to this weekend.
These are the final contests before playoff matchups are official. Things could change in the west when Capital plays at Butte and Sentinel goes to Glacier. Those games are Thursday.
Butte and Glacier are identical at 5-1 conference. Sentinel and Capital are right behind at 4-2 each. Could there be three or four teams at 5-2? Watch out for the underdog!!
While the east it’s all Bozeman Hawks and Glacier Raptors, and a bunch of wannabes.
Here’s your slate of games Friday.
They will feature Big Sky at Helena. No contest for Helena. Senior is set up for a loss at Bozeman. Gallatin is set to dominate Skyview. The only hope for the underdog is if the coaching staff holds their key athletes out to rest them before next weeks show- downs in the playoffs.
There are four teams, two from the east, two from the west, that are already eliminated from postseason. They include Flathead Braves, Hellgate Knights, Belgrade, Panthers, and the Rustlers. Best of luck (seriously) next year.
Now for the MAIN EVENT at Memorial Stadium Friday, October 20th
Crosstown action with the ever dangerous scenario of a down and out team taking on a team getting ready to host a playoff game next week.
Is the stage set for a Rustler upset? Could the Bison be knocked off their run first offense? Could it come down to turnovers? Could it be that the Rustler’s River Wasson has a career game? Will Cooper Collins get more quarterback sacks? Could it be a penalty? Will turnovers turn the momentum to Green or Blue?
We already know that the weather will not be an issue. Mild temperatures and light winds for a 7 PM kick off.
All your questions will be answered. Who can be, or should be or will be a hero and make a memory? Since this is the discussion at every 10,20 or 50 year reunion! The going- in records are put away but the crosstown game, win or lose is always a glaring memory, In full disclosure, the game in 1999 was a stalemate into the second quarter, when my defensive tackle son, Jerry scooped and scored a 65 yard touchdown to start the Bison scoring, With CMR's Mike Schmidt in pursuit. Did the Bison win? That's another story. But new memories will be made. Community pride will be on full display.
There really is nothing in Montana high school lore that lives up to the spectacle of crosstown football in Great Falls. Best of luck to all the athletes on the field. Thank you to the coaches for preparing your teams to continue to represent our schools, Bison and Rustlers.
We are all proud to call this OUR event-- let's play ball.
Join us for the broadcast on 99.9 Big Sky Sports or on the Big Sky Sports App Friday evening at 6:45
