This Scary Maneuver is Legal in Montana for Motorcycles

For motorcycle riders, coming home safely from a ride is a constant thought as you enjoy the curves of your favorite highway.

Or even just making it to work and back.  Each time you swing a leg over the seat, that thought will enter your mind.  Is this the day?

So, it boggles my mind that anyone would want to make that ride even more dangerous by allowing a maneuver that is in my opinion pretty darn sketchy.

Knowing the Montana Motorcycle Code Laws and How They Apply

Many of us have probably had the scenario of being stopped in a long line of traffic waiting for a light to change.  Suddenly, a motorcycle passes you by, leaping to the front of the line.

It's called lane filtering in legal jargon, or better known as lane splitting.  And yes, it is legal in Montana since 2021.  You can read more about the specific law and how it reads here.  It allows for:

"Lane filtering" means the act of overtaking and passing another vehicle that is stopped or traveling at a speed not in excess of 10 miles an hour in the same direction of travel and in the same lane.

As a former rider, I can say that this law is scary.  If I can't trust the person in a truck, car, tractor-trailer or other type of vehicle in a normal scenario, how is this better?
