Montana Will Receive $3.5 Million Over Baby Powder Lawsuit

According to court documents, Johnson & Johnson baby powder was tainted with carcinogenic asbestos.

Evidently, this baby powder was sold throughout the United States over the last few years.

Montana Baby Powder Lawsuit Details

According to Montana Attorney General Austin Knudson, the lawsuit has been finalized, and Montana will receive over $3.5 million from this multi-state settlement.

The exact settlement has Montana receiving $3,537,515 of the total $700,000,000 multi-state settlement.

Johnson and Johnson has also agreed to cease manufacturing, marketing, promoting, and selling its baby body and cosmetic powder products.

“Johnson & Johnson violated Montana’s consumer protection laws, but worse put the health and safety of consumers at risk. The company’s actions are unacceptable and I’m glad we could help to hold them accountable,” Attorney General Knudsen said.

Ultimately, this settlement holds Johnson and Johnson accountable for knowingly manufacturing and selling these talk-base powder products.

Attorney General Knudson said these actions violated Montana’s Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Acts.

The state of Montana will begin receiving payments from the settlement on July 30, 2024.

The payments will continue to stream into Montana through 2027.

The funds will be dispersed at the discretion of Attorney General Knudsen and can be used for restitution and grants for the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Montana.
