With the beauty of our landscape in Montana, it isn't a surprise that many film companies, directors and producers seek the state out for their cameras.  And boy, have we seen some incredible films happen in our state over the years.

Films such as "A River Runs Through It", "The Man from Snowy River" or "Holy Matrimony".  A favorite in Central Montana has to be the "Untouchables", with shots from the Missouri River and Hardy Creek.  But when it comes to memorable, classic and forever etched in our memories, there really is only one in Great Falls.

Could This A-List Actor Be Spotted in Great Falls Soon?

In the early 1970's, two up and coming actors started filming what would become a cult classic over the years.  Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges hit the Electric City for the filming of "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" and the nostalgia that surrounds it to this day by folks in Great Falls is amazing.

Many remember working on the film, or someone who knew someone who did.  Memorable scenes of "The Paris" being crashed into, hi speed chases and explosions galore.  It appears now that another famous movie star is looking to remake this classic film.  But will the reboot be coming back to its roots in Central Montana for filming with Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool fame producing and starring in a new version.

New Version of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot - Will You Go See This One?

Reynolds and his company Maximum Effort have teamed with Amazon MGM Studios and are officially remaking this 1974 classic.  The reboot is being co-written by Reynolds, with him to star.  There isn't any word on who he would portray or a possible co-star and whether the script would follow any of the original.

For Great Falls fans of the movie, it appears that many don't want a remade version of a favorite filmed in the city.  Especially since many of the landmarks that were so prominent in the original that are no longer around.  From comments on social media, many mentioned areas such as:

  • Hussman's Pool Hall
  • St. John's Lutheran Church
  • 10th Avenue Drive In
  • Original Schoolhouse for final scene

While I am highly doubtful that this new version will be filmed in our city, or even our state, the "what if's" could be a boon for our area, even for just a few months of filming.
