Earlier this past week, before the big semi-final game between the University of Montana and Montana State, my father and I were discussing if either of us would be rooting for the Grizzlies if they won and were to be in the championship game.

His response actually surprised me a little, since he has always been a die-hard MSU fan since graduating from the college in the mid-60's.  That enthusiasm rubbed off on me as well, having always cheered for the blue and gold:

"Yep, if my Cats don't win, I will still be rooting for the Griz.  Because ultimately, it is about a Montana team being there to represent all of us."

Ahh, Dad's always throwing out little pieces of wisdom.

MSU Fans Celebrate A Win While Grizzlies Fans Debate Loyalty

As it turned out, at least for MSU fans, the question didn't matter with the Cats coming out victorious in the Brawl of the Wild 2.0 in Bozeman over the weekend, and the team will be heading to Nashville, TN for the national title game.

My hope is that many of the fans of the U of M Grizzly team will also be rooting for their archrivals when the game starts.  Unfortunately, it appears a few of the Griz fans won't be on the bandwagon of a Montana team being in Tennessee.

Social Media Post Takes on Anyone Rooting for a Montana Team

On a social media post, the Montana Grizzlies Football Fans account had some interesting things to say about rooting for their rivals:

Putting this out there. Anyone cheering for your rival to win it all because they’re “a MoNtAnA tEaM” is actively in a backwards way rooting for the continued mediocrity of your own team. Your rival winning the whole thing hurts your program.

The author of the post then doubled down on not cheering the Cats:

If you’re a Griz fan and want to cheer for the Cats to win it all, enjoy the continued mediocrity of Grizzly football. Congrats to Montana State for beating us twice. But as your rival, still hope you lose just like Yankee fans hope the Mets lose and vice versa.

Yikes!  There may be some sour grapes in that barrel somewhere!  What do you think about cheering your rival after they have beat your team?  Are you going to be cheering the Cats or hoping for a loss?
