This Popular Camp Area Is Now Closed into November
Camping season is in full swing across the state of Montana, with local and tourist travelers finding their special spot of paradise to make memories in. We all keep our fingers crossed for the one open spot that we always try to grab at our favorite spots. Setting up and making s'mores. Or catching fish whilst enjoying a quiet canoe ride across a beautiful lake setting in our Rocky Mountains.
One of The More Popular Areas in Central Montana Will Now Be Closed
Central Montana is home to an abundance of waterways to enjoy. Whether it is the Missouri River itself or perhaps Holter and Canyon Ferry. Gibson Reservoir near Augusta or the openness of Lake Elwell, better known as Tiber. Near Lewiston and Harlowtown lies the beauty of Crystal Lake Campground. A popular destination for locals and more, it has now been shut down for repairs and renovations. You can still reach this area though with a little bit of driving.
Finding Access Other Ways in the Big Snowy Mountains of Montana
From the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest:
Crystal Lake Campground in the Big Snowy Mountains will be closed July 10th through November 1st for reconstruction. During this time, new pit toilets and septic systems will be installed, the road in the campground will be resurfaced with improved parking pads, and campground facilities will be updated including a new water system along with campfire rings and picnic tables.
There is access available for both the lake and the caverns via a separate route:
The Ice Cave Trailhead, Crystal Lake Cabin, Crystal Lake Campground and Crystal Lake Group site will be closed. Visitors can access the Ice Caves via the Crystal Cascades or Neil Creek Trailheads. Grandview Day Use Site, boat launch, and Crystal Lake Loop Trail will remain open.
