As a ranch kid growing up back in the early 80's, or as my grandson likes to refer to them, "the late 1900's", I had the bright idea of getting a killer tan for the summer before heading off to college for the fall.

With a water-filled squirt bottle, baby oil and towel in hand, I set about my task.  Of course, it did not turn out well; I spent the next several weeks with blisters everywhere on my legs, feet and toes while trying to pick bales on the tractor.  The smell of bag balm still gives me PTSD at times.  Don't be like me.

Could a Simple Cup of Black Tea Help with a Montana Sunburn This Summer?

If you are looking for holistic methods to help with relief from a sunburn, a bag of black tea may be what will help comfort you; there is even science behind the method.  Black tea contains tannins and other natural compounds that can help reduce the feeling of heat and some of the discomfort:

  • Brew a few cups of black tea and let it cool before placing in the refrigerator until chilled.  Soak a soft washcloth in the tea and gently apply to your sunburnt areas, taking care not to rub the affected area.
