As a born and raised Montanan, I probably shouldn't admit that I hate the cold.  And as I have gotten older, I loathe it even more.  But the scorching Earth heat we have had lately isn't a big plus either.

There is a nice, sweet spot in between those two seasons in Big Sky Country, and it appears that I may get to golf a little bit longer into the Fall this year.  At least according to one of the oldest prognosticators of the weather; the Old Farmer's Almanac.

Old Farmer's Almanac Predicts Wet and Warm for Fall in Montana

If my social media feed is any indicator, a lot of folks are looking for a little relief from the heat and counting the days until the cooler stuff arrives.  They may need to wait a bit for it to come through.  The Old Farmer's Almanac says most of Montana will be warm and dry.

The west side of the Rocky Mountain Divide will see more moisture in the upcoming fall weather patterns and be cooler than the eastern side.  Much of the Pacific Northwest will see possible above average rainfall, especially in the month of September.

Great Falls Could See Warm Weather into October of 2026 - Keep the Club Ready

On the Eastern slopes of the Rockies, Montana could have an extended summer according to the almanac.  As a golfer in Montana, I can't say that I am disheartened to hear that prediction.  A couple more weeks or even an extended month or two would be fantastic.

The forecast for Central Montana and further east could have temps that are above the average, and rainfall will be pretty minimal.  September and October are predicted to be well below the normal averages for the season in 2026.  Learn more here.
