What to Know About New Phishing Scam Involving Montana LE

Through social media, the Montana Highway Patrol is warning residents in the state to be on the lookout for this new phishing scam about a "driving record review".  The text states that the "Montana Highway Patrol Traffic Division" is wanting you to pay a driving fine, or else you could face a fine and collection agencies calling you.

Don't fall for it!  It really is a scam.  To make it appear even more urgent, the texts state that you will also have your license suspended if payment isn't made.  It then lists a bogus website address for the receiver to click and enter information.  Again, don't fall for it!

Montana Highway Patrol Won't Be Calling or Texting You Anytime Soon

According to the statement through social media, the MHP will never contact you through phone or text to request a payment or notify you of a suspended driver license. Regardless, the agency has received multiple reports from across the state of the attempted phishing.

Other agencies across the state have received similar reports of attempted phishing text or phone calls, including our local Cascade County Sheriff's Office.  If you do receive one of these messages, delete it immediately and block the unknown number if possible, and never click on an unfamiliar website link.
