
Bad Foods Getting Big Makeover with This Ingredient Now
I am going to come right out and admit that I am by far what anyone, especially my wife and family doctor, would consider health conscious. That is unless nicotine and caffeine have been added to that pyramid we were all shown in grade school.
But I have become more health aware as the candles on the cake have become enough that it may set off a smoke alarm when blown out. Eating better becomes more important as we get older, and marketers of products that are often referred to as "unhealthy" are trying to get us to either stay with them or maybe even come back in a health-worried world.

If you have been grocery shopping in the last few months, you may have already noticed this on certain food groups. It really caught my eye in the cereal aisle, and the instant breakfast meals, like oatmeal.

I grabbed this "new" brand, featuring a huge graphic of the protein being offered instead of the good old standby that I loved as a kid:
But after a quick glance at the other brands, they were all featuring this new branding on their boxes about a muscle building nutrient called protein.
Is This New Marketing Tool Making You Use Brands You Don't Consider Healthy?
It isn't just breakfast items that are seeing this new marketing blitz take over. Although I do love that brown sugar cinnamon Pop Tarts are now on the "ok to eat list" in my house because of the double protein in them!
Other brands that are trying to capitalize on the protein craze include:
- Doritos - PepsiCo is planning a new "protein-packed" Dorito in the near future
- Starbucks - New protein cold foams and lattes are now up to 36 grams of protein in a Grande size
- Mac and Cheese - "Muscle Mac" contains about 40 grams of protein per box
- Water - PepsiCo is offering Propel Protein Water with 20 grams added
- Dry Cereal - Brands such as Special K and Wheaties are adding protein to lineups
