When travelling or vacationing, passing the time can be a challenge. To make things a little more interesting and fun, my wife and I love to try and spot Montana license plates when we aren't in the state.
Most of the time it is fellow residents traveling to destinations beyond the borders of Big Sky Country. But occasionally we notice a vehicle that seems a little odd to be sporting that familiar Treasure State logo and wonder if they really are from home.

Over the last 10-15 years, supercars have become more and more prevalent on roadways. Seeing a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porche isn't out of the ordinary anymore. But having a plate from Montana and we are in Florida? Or California, even Texas?

The reason behind the influx of Montana license plates across the country is simple. Saving on taxes. Many of the registered in Montana cars of the rich won't ever leave a mark on our roads or fill up in our gas stations.
Should This Montana Licensing Loophole Be Closed or Keep It?
The loophole according to Hagerty Media, "lets you avoid the taxes, fees, and DMV dealings of registering a vehicle in your own state, saving headaches and potentially tens of thousands of dollars in the process."

By forming an LLC in Montana, out of state residents basically have a "company car" at your disposal. And you avoid all the taxes in your own state.
