A lot of times when people think of Montana rivers, they picture someone quietly and peacefully fly fishing.  However, if you're hungry for something with a bit more of an adrenaline rush, how about rafting the white waters of Montana?

It's a rousing break from the ordinary, and whitewater rafting is an extraordinary team building exercise.

All over the Treasure State you'll find rivers full of thrilling adventure.  In Montana, there are rivers for every skill level and guides that would love to show you the ropes, or teach you a thing or two about the scenery and history of the land.

Here are a few rivers recommended for Montana Whitewater Rafting by Planetware:

Flathead River

There are great places to raft on the Middle Fork and North Fork of the river with the river next to Highway 2 being where all the guided trips happen.

Yellowstone river

Your experience will start in Gardiner and run through Paradise Valley.  Yankee Jim Canyon is a Class-III section for the wild at heart.

Alberton Gorge, Clark Fork River

Missoula based outfitters run trips through this section.  There are points of flatwater and some points that are Class-III.

Gallatin River

Most rafting trips start by Big Sky.  You can book a trip to go through House Rock Rapid or the Mad Mile, some sections are Class-III-IV, or a more chill trip down a less hectic section of the river.

Blackfoot River

Made famous by the book, A River Runs Through It and features Class-II-III rapids.  This river has easy access, especially in the Blackfoot River Recreation Corridor.

Madison River

The Madison River flows through Beartrap Canyon, a full day trip with Class-III-IV rapids and there is a section of the river called S-Turn Rapid that's a Class-V.

Stillwater River

A very deceptive name for a river with a section called Aqua Velvet, a Class-V.  There are also several more relaxing sections to raft.

Smith River

One of the best trips in the state, so popular that you need a permit to float it.  An adventure on the Smith can take days as there is only one place to get on and one place to get off.
