I ran across an article about The Yellowstone Club today that made my whole 2024 so far, as well as made me laugh out loud here at work.

Check out this headline from Montana Free Press:

Yellowstone Club becomes first ski resort in Montana to turn wastewater into snow

What?  Yesssssss!  This screams an article titled something like "The One Percent Will Happily Ski in The Poo of Montanans" Ba ha ha ha ha!

Environmental Groups and Ski Resorts Love This Idea

From the Montana Free Press:

resort officials and local conservation groups said it’s both safe and beneficial to the environment, especially during dry winters like this one, which has left some ski areas in the state shuttered.

Are The Elite Skiing on Yellow Snow?

No, according to Richard Chandler from the Yellowstone Club, (as reported on Montana Free Press)

Chandler said that using recycled water to make snow treats the wastewater even more than it normally would be before being released into a river. By shooting it through the snowmaking equipment (it’s essentially misted onto the slopes as snow) the wastewater is treated again. Then, as it melts in the spring and enters the ground, it’s filtered a third time. Chandler also said that the compacted snow on the slopes will last longer into spring and summer, adding water to the aquifer at a critical time and helping streamflows later in the season

The Yellowstone club reported that  there are 12 ski areas in the United States along with some ski resorts in Canada, Switzerland and Australia are sometimes using wastewater to create snow on their slopes. So maybe a good idea, but I also wonder what it will do, if anything to the environment.

Even though it's a smart idea, I choose to think of them all skiing in the waste of the Montanans they're so adverse from hanging out with.
