Montana Hospital Safety Grades: What You Need to Know

With winter fast approaching, soon there will be snow and ice covering the ground across Montana, which could lead to plenty of slips and falls and subsequent trips to the hospital.

If you are in need of hospital care, you want to make sure you're going to a good one, which is why twice each year hospitals are given safety grades.

Why Safety Ratings Are Important

Most people don’t enjoy going to the hospital, regardless of its safety rating, myself included.

However, if you are going to spend time there, it's better to be at a highly rated one than a poorly rated one.

That’s why the LeapFrog Group gathers data and releases safety grades twice a year, as things can change quickly in just six months.

How LeapFrog Evaluates Hospital Safety

Looking at data and responses from patients, LeapFrog gives out letter grades to show how safe patients are from harm.

They also consult experts from Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Stanford, UC Davis, Vanderbilt, and the CDC, because your safety is more than just how brightly lit the facility is or how friendly the receptionist is.

Fortunately, in Montana, out of the 9 hospitals evaluated, only 1 received a "D" rating. In contrast, only two hospitals earned an "A" rating, which is down from three in the spring.
