Great Falls High Honors Its First Legacy Alumni Class

Great Falls High Principal Geoff Habel just dug through some old yearbooks and uncovered one heck of a piece of Bison history.

This weekend, as Great Falls High celebrates homecoming, the school will also induct its inaugural Legacy Alumni class, honoring former students who went on to make an impact in military service, the arts, athletics, education, and their communities.

Great Falls High's Legacy Alumni Class Spans More Than 100 Years

Among the first group of honorees is 102-year-old Frank C. Fogarty, a 1942 graduate who went on to command the USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear-powered submarine.

Unfortunately, Fogarty can't make it back to Great Falls for the celebration, but thankfully, he sent a video for the occasion.

KRTV reports that the inaugural class stretches across more than 100 years of GFH history, starting with Josephine Trigg from the school's first graduating class in 1893 and continuing all the way to 1998 graduate Jaymee Sire, who went on to work at ESPN and the Food Network.

Longtime Great Falls residents will recognize some pretty familiar names in the group, along with plenty of former Bisons whose accomplishments may be less familiar to people today.

That's really the whole point of the Legacy Alumni project.

Great Falls High Is Preserving the Stories Of Its Former Bisons

The people behind it say their research uncovered stories that even longtime Bison supporters didn't know about. They plan to keep digging through old yearbooks, school newspapers, and other records in an effort to preserve more of the Montana school's history.

One of the neatest parts is that the first class will also have its stories displayed around the halls of Great Falls High, giving students today a chance to learn about some of the people who came before them.

Scroll through the inaugural Legacy Alumni class, which will be inducted during homecoming weekend, October 2-3, in the gallery below.
