Is There a Noise Problem in the City of Great Falls?

Are there certain noises that will just drive you over the edge of sanity?  The sound of someone clicking a pen in the cubicle next to you at work.  The constant barking of a neighborhood dog.  The squeak in your furnace fan each time you need to heat the house.

They are just everyday sounds that coincide with life and heading out into the big bad world.  Great Falls isn't any different from other cities with noise.  Airplanes, construction and the hustle and bustle of a city are all going to be heard.  So why complain?

You Realize It Is a city, right?  This Is Kind of Normal

A newly added post to the social media site NextDoor has me perplexed.  In it, the poster asks if the city or county has ever considered a noise ordinance.  But the complaints and examples have me considering this a fake or even maybe a "trolling" post.  Because they couldn't possibly be serious about some of these "loud things" that are in Great Falls.

A quick browsing of the post shows that this person is wondering about:

  • Air Force helicopters
  • Dogs
  • Yard Work
  • Harleys, trucks and cars
  • Lawn care workers

Oddly enough, there really are ordinances in our city for these problems already.

Sure, we have all probably had a neighborhood dog that maybe barks a little too much.  Or maybe you grew up on Airport Hill with the jets.  These noises are out there.  But if you do have a concern about noise in your neighborhood, there are ways that you can grab the bullhorn and make yourself heard.

In Great Falls the municipal code holds over 30 results for "noise" when you search for any types of laws or codes that deal with being too noisy in our city.  You can check out all of the city municipal codes here.
