How to Be Prepared Hiking with Your Pet in Montana

Being prepared to be in the outdoors of Big Sky Country in Montana is imperative, even if it is just an afternoon hike in the Highwoods or Belt Mountains.  And while we worry about ourselves, if you have a pet with you, there are certain things you should know.

The Montana K9 Safety group aims to make that happen with seminars centered around taking care of our dogs while in the backcountry of Montana.  One such seminar is coming to Great Falls in April featuring hunting traps and your pet.

What is Montana K9 Safety and How are They Helping Owners

Montana K9 Safety is an organization that supports owners, veterinarians, shelters and more with important information regarding their dog's safety.  According to their website, they "offer the most practical, comprehensive, intense and realistic training in the world."

A new seminar hosted by them will be coming to Great Falls on April 30, 2025, and hosted at the main headquarters of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 4 located at Giant Springs.

Sign Up to Save a Pet's Life with Trap and Snare Release Seminar in GF

The seminar begins at 5:30pm and will last approximately 1.5 hours.  The event will feature a free trap release workshop that will provide you with the skills to remove your dog in the event it is accidentally caught in a trap.

The program will discuss all types of traps, trapping regulations, and tools needed to be able to effectively and quickly removed your dog from a trap.  The event is free to the public, but you must register in advance here.
